Love is a Picasso Painting

Love is a Picasso Painting

Poet: Patrick George

Love is a Picasso painting
Love is a place short of air
Yet we choose to live there,
Gasping and flouncing
Like beached dolphins.

Molded from pieces of dream
Love deals in the surreal.
Journeys are begun
But legs weighted with iron
Never reach their destination.

Food slips through holes in our jaws
Onto mirrored glass floors
Easy picking for guitar strumming mice.
Feet are made for wearing gloves,
Dogs strut on grass catwalks
Modeling the wings of doves.

Nothing stays in place
Long enough to be labeled
Understood or reviewed.
Picasso paints our views

With Beethoven listening
Through Stevie’s eyes,
Making music from brush strokes
He will never hear.

Our eyes deceive us
We can’t trust our ears,
Everything slips through our fingers
Yet we keep reaching out to hold.

Love is a Picasso painting
And the lover stands in awe,
An artist embarrassed,
Unable to draw a conclusion
He pretends to understand the jigsaw.
